Columbus Day weekend, falling leaves & hot, simmering cider.

Hi everyone and happy fall! Ahhh...it's my favorite time of year! It is such a treat to be able to drive down windy 175 this time of year to get to the boutique. The mornings have been crisp but sunny; the leaves are vibrant hues of reds and yellows; there is a true magic in the air around here.

So in the spirit of fall and all things festivy, the boutique is all decorated and open all all weekend from 10-6 with hot cider and tasty treats to snack on. We've got art sales and a few new artists, so swing on by and check it all out! (The ride down Route 175 is soooooooo worth it!)
(Despite frosty nights, this big ol' pot o' veggies & plants that my mom planted is loving life!)
(Mum came from Owen's Farm on Rte. 175--a must stop on a leaf-peeping day!)

Desktop Patterns!

We're trying something new at the boutique: a loop of slides that play on a screen to the groovy store music. I have designed a bunch of them and thought I would share. This project is going to go live in a few days, along with some new rockin' tunes (yessss.....I did have a customer say the other day: "You do listen to a LOT of Michale Jackson! Everytime I come in here, Jackson Five is playing." I know. Guilty.) So new tunes and slides will be making their appearance in a few days. (Sidenote: freelance musicians! Feel free to send me tunes to play in the shoppe!)

In the meantime I thought I would post a few designs so that YOU can enjoy these funky designs (and help spread the word to support local artists)! The following images can be used as desktops on your computer. Just click on the image and it *should* pop up in another window. Right click, and select "set to desktop pattern."

Enjoy and happy fall! :o)

Squam Art Workshops

This past Saturday, I had the honor of attending the SAW (Squam Art Workshops) reception at Rockwald Deephaven and representing the boutique. What fun it was! There were amazing artists and creators alike, from all walks of life, buying, selling, admiring, wearing, talking about and living art. Despite a sore back (it was my second show of the day) and later hours, it was work every pain and ache in my toes to be able to enjoy the company of such creative folk!
I chose a sampling of works from the shop that would make for a nice assortment of product (and be easy to transport). From bags to hats to jewelry to signs to handsewn creations, it made for a fun little display. (This has definitely gotten the wheels turning in my head on other ways we as artists at the boutique can take our work on the road!)
For more information about SAW, check out their website at www.squamartworkshops.com. It's an amazing program that has changed the lives of many! Amazing stuff!

The Dressing Room!

It's with great pride that I present to you a newly built dressing room at the boutique. The project all-in-all cost me $17.00. Between an old door I found on the side of the road last year (and KNEW I was going to use for something!), the free 2x4's my friends Dave and Amy gave me (sure, I had to pick some slugs and moss off them, but they worked just fine), and an assortment of yard sale finds for decoration, I was able to make the project look good. Take that, Design on a Dime! (I of course have to thank my father, who upon finding out I was going to try and frame out the wall myself (I DO know how to do it!), loaded up his tools and came over the next day to help turn my drawing into reality. So, 4 hours, $17.00, and one fun "thank you" dinner out with my dad at Walter's Basin, I have a dressing room! Swing on by and check it out! :o)

Hula Hoop Success!

Hi folks! So sorry about the delay in this post, but I have spent days and days repairing my computer - finally I am up and running and happy to report about the first hula hoop making class....a success! Oh what fun we had! There will definitely be another class coming up in the near future, so be on the lookout! Yes, hula hoop making can be for kids....but there were a lot of adults who joined in on the fun!

Johnny's ninja hoop making skills:
Every celebration needs a cake!

Joyce's fabric wrapped hoopin' beauty:

This was my mom's glittery number:

Rock out with your hoop out, Lani! (She named it 'Kalliope')

Thanks for coming everyone!

The boutique in Legos.

Inspired by the boutique, Andy Tyrrell, age 9, has created a Lego rendition of the Veggie Art Girl Boutique. Check it out!
That would be Stacey in the flowered shirt with the blonde up-do...clearly making a giant sale! (And look...there's the old cash register in the back!)

The Two Buck Trunk (and the wheel is representative of the mosaic ladybug on the floor in the shop)
Of course....the hula hoops!

Taylor Made Graphics and the giant chalkboard

Thanks for sharing, Andy! What a masterpiece!

Artist Spotlight: Carolyn Demers

Now here's a NH artist who is making things happen and keeping the dream alive! Meet Bradford, NH artist Carolyn Demers (or at least a samplin' of her work). Carolyn prides herself on using a lot of salvaged materials in her work, which is all one-of-a-kind.

There is a super collection of Carolyn's glass art featured in the Veggie Art Girl Boutique. From handcrafted windchimes to mosaic stepping stones to large stained glass pieces, her work is vibrant and shines beautifully in the sunlight.

This mosaic table is handcrafted from antique plates and dishes. What a great conversation piece! If you have an old set of antique dishes that are special to you but you just don't, Carolyn can create a special piece of art or furniture for you!

A lot of Carolyn's stained glass pieces are modeled after Victorian style window designs. We feature a wide variety of sizes and colors here at the boutique to spruce up any window!

Darling windchimes and small stained glass window hangings always make a great gift! Carolyn just completed a batch of windchimes which includes this beautiful dragonfly design!

Here are a few of Carolyn's larger pieces. The stained glass on the left features an old bottle in the middle of the design that she dug up from her backyard! (Probably an old medicine bottle from the 1800's). The sunflower glass design on the right shines brightly with it's gorgeous color palette!
And here is a samplin' of Carolyn's unique stepping stones. Pricing for the stones start at just $10.00 and add that special touch to any garden. If you have an idea for a design that you would like to create, there are also mosaic kit supplies available at the boutique. Stop in to check it all out!
I have had the pleasure of knowing Carolyn for years; she was the one who first inspired me to create my own mosaic projects back in the late 90's when we met at a craft fair in Lincoln, NH. Now that her and I have both opened our own shops, we have reconnected and are selling each other creative wares in our shops. If you would like to check out Carolyn's shoppe and studio, go to http://stainedglass.vpweb.com/
Oh, and one last thing: mention that you read about Carolyn's work on the website and we'll take 10% OFF at the boutique for you AND throw in a FREE greeting card! What a great idea for a gift!
